Job Summary

The Director Labor Relations is a senior leadership position in HR which is responsible for overall Labor Relations function for PSEG.

The position will direct the negotiation and administration of the collective bargaining agreements with all PSEG labor unions. The position will oversee the staff of labor relations professionals and regularly interact with PSEG senior leadership; local, state and national labor leaders; and other key internal and external constituents regarding labor relations strategy and labor/management matters of significance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of day-to-day Labor Relations matters for various LOB's in accordance with contract language and company policy, procedures, and practices.
  • Develop and recommend negotiation strategy to the Executive Director on labor issues. Negotiate labor agreements. Provide advice and guidance to staff members.
  • Oversee the management of the discipline, grievance and arbitration processes, including the management and audit of various logs and reports relating to disciplinary actions, discharges, grievances, and arbitrations.
  • Execute upon company-wide initiatives (e.g., best practices, workplace behaviors) that affect bargaining unit employees.
  • Oversee PSEG labor relations training.
  • Partner with Compliance, Employee Relations, and Legal regarding ongoing concerns, investigations, arbitrations, legal disputes, and resolutions to achieve optimal results.
  • Analyze labor relations data looking for trends and making recommendations to drive future labor relations strategy and initiatives.
  • Perform related responsibilities as assigned in support of the Executive Director


Job Specific Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 10 year's experience in labor relations.
• Knowledge of labor and employment laws, 1st chair labor negotiations experience
• Experience leading a team (managing or supervising) directly or indirectly, demonstrated ability to train others
• Developed skills in Microsoft Office applications (including SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management and others
• Demonstrated project management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and lead cross-functional teams
• Ability to work independently and exercise discretion and independent judgement
• Ability to develop creative solutions

Desired:
• Utility industry experience
• Working knowledge of one or more PSEG collective bargaining agreements
• Master's Degree in Human Resources and/or Labor Relations
• J.D. with labor law experience
• Experience working In a collaborative labor relations environment
• Experience as an advocate in labor arbitration proceedings
