This is a first level supervisory position at Southern Electric Division. This is a PSE&G position and as such may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and work schedule during storm/outage restoration efforts. Reporting to an alternate work location may also be required.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide supervision in the overhead construction of all major new, replacement and upgraded electric outside plant facilities including poles and overhead conductors.
• Achieve the desired results of the Southern Division Overhead Construction Organization through the use of PSEG values and tools, sound management practices and skills and a total commitment to teamwork.
• Oversee the activities of all outside plant construction associates (PSE&G and contractor) to ensure safe and efficient construction of outside plant facilities.
• Supervise the construction of all outside plant electric distribution facilities. Assist in the training and development of overhead personnel.
• Promote safety principles. Coach, Counsel and recognize associates, as required, and handle First Step Grievance meetings in accordance with Positive Discipline.
• Conduct fact-finding meetings as required. Conduct performance appraisal reviews with bargaining unit associates.
• Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner. Accept overhead call-out assignments.
• Assist in the emergency response and restoration for major events to include accepting Mutual Aid obligations.
• Expected to respond outside of normal hours, even when not on-call. Ability to layout/supervise the work of others.
• Knowledge and ability to train/instruct personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable portions of Company/Union agreement will be applied. Must utilize ability to recognize unusual conditions and take corrective action.

Job Specific Qualifications

• High school Diploma of Equivalent
• 5 years extensive experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead electric distribution facilities.
• Thorough knowledge of Company/Union Agreements
• Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver's Commercial Driving License with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
• Safety sensitive position. D.O.T. testing required.
• Must obtain an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST) unless presently an internal employee and directly supervising (i.e. responsible for performance review) Union, operating department/represented associates for a minimum of 12 continuous months. For those who have previously taken and received an acceptable score on the FLST but who are not presently and directly supervising represented associates, test results will be valid for a maximum period of two years from the date the test was taken. Acceptable test results exceeding the two year period (for those applicants not presently and directly supervising represented associates) cannot be used in bidding on or applying for a first line supervisory position for which the test was validated.

• 10 years extensive experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead electric distribution facilities.
