Job Summary

Entry level role of Designer position that is intended to be part of the existing growth series for Designers which already includes two existing positions, i.e., Designer - Grade Level 26 and Lead Designer - Grade Level 27.

This position includes working with multiple project teams and project engineers to develop electrical layout drawings for PSE&G Switching Stations and Substations (voltage levels from 4 kV to 500 kV).  Electrical layout drawings including (but are not limited to) conceptual plans, plan and profile, general arrangement drawings, manhole and hand hole development, bus plans, station grounding details, trench and conduit plans, control house equipment layout, and station lighting. 
• Electrical Layout Designer is responsible for completing all the electrical layout drawings necessary to accurately convey construction and/or fabrication instructions, • Electrical Layout Designer is responsible for assisting engineers with conceptual design and drawing requirements, • Electrical Layout Designer is responsible for coordinating and analyzing vendor supplied drawings and incorporating the required information into engineering drawings, • Electrical Layout Designer is responsible for the development of detailed bill of material (B.O.M.) required to connect major substation equipment (include but not limited to GIS/GIB, transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, CCVT's, wave traps, bus, etc.), • Review and comment on engineering drawings produced by external architectural and engineering (A&E) firms and/or internal designers to ensure compliance with PSE&G process, standards, and practices, constructability, maintainability, operational needs, safety and acceptable utility practice, and • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: • Off-hours availability to assist with emergency equipment replacement work and system restoration.  As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and your regular work schedule, you may also be required to work in an alternate location

Job Responsibilities

•Pre-construction and post-construction field marked prints incorporation into as build packages (Issued For Record), including help to the Divisions with scanning of the station filed marked prints •Support emergency projects by working on  Computer Aided Drafting Design •Work on small design projects for construction •Work on creation of new PSE&G drawings based on the vendor drawings •Work in Microstation on creation of 30 scale drawings •Update standard drawings for the correspondent design discipline, i.e., civil, electrical, layout, and controls.  Update Microstation cell libraries for the correspondent design discipline, i.e., civil, electrical, layout, or controls.
 

Job Specific Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS:
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or 5+ years equivalent technical experience in the area of substation engineering • Must have at least 0 to 3 years of switching and substation layout design experience in the electrical utility industry • Working knowledge of Microstation/CAD software • Strong computer skills in MS Office applications • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license • Must have strong written and verbal communications skills • Must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and results-oriented
 
DESIRED: • Advanced degree or technical training • Electrical utility experience • Familiarity with substation equipment and operations • Able to read/understand electrical one lines • Experience with contingency planning • Experience with outage planning
